Hello everyone! We’re seeing lots of searches for kids summer camp information for the greater Fort Walton Beach area, and we hope this article will be helpful. As you know from our earlier post, we requested the organizations we blogged about last year to update their websites and we heard back from a few of them, so let’s get right to it!
Youth Village Inc. (aka Nellie’s Youth Village) provides year-round educational and recreational services to children ages 5-16 in our community, a safe, nurturing environment with supportive mentors, teachers and other caring adults to help children acquire a love of learning and create a desire to achieve. The Youth Village 2012 Summer Enrichment Camp will run 7:30 am – 6:00 pm Monday thru Friday at a cost of $75 for each week, from June 4 thru August 17, and they will begin accepting applications March 26. Visit the Youth Village website for more information.
The Arts and Design Society again offers the opportunity for children to create visual arts in its Kids’ Summer Fine Art Camp. Classes begin on Mondays with the ancient skills of clay artistry and feature a different medium each day, including drawing, painting, and printmaking. Each week ends with an art show and reception for the families. There are 4 sessions, organized by age groups:
Session 1: Ages 6 – 8, June 18 – 22, 9:30 – 11:30 am
Session 2: Ages 9 – 13, June 18 – 22, 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Session 3: Ages 6 – 11, July 16 – 20, 9:30 – 11:30 am
Session 4: Ages 6 – 11, July 16 – 20, 1:00 – 3:00 pm
The cost for each week-long session is $60 per child ($50 for the children of ADSO members). Pre-registration is required by Friday, June 15, for June sessions, and Friday, July 13, for July sessions. Classes are at the ADSO Art Center, 17 First Street, SE, FWB. For more info or to register, call 244-1271.
The Creative Dramatics summer workshop nicknamed “Camp Glee!,” offered by the Fine and Performing Arts Division at Northwest Florida State College, will run from June 4 thru July 3. The Camp Glee Creative Dramatics program will meet from 8:30 am to 1:35 pm, Monday through Thursday, at the Niceville campus. Though we have not yet received complete details at this writing, if the program mirrors the 2011 Camp Glee, students age 13 through college may participate and will learn about choreography, acting, voice, makeup and staging. For more information, call Diana Jernigan at 729-5382.
The University of West Florida’s Division of Continuing Education is again providing its Summer Reading Skills Program for Children and Adults. This valuable community service features eight different reading skills programs for all ages from 4 years and up, available in Fort Walton Beach, Panama City, Pensacola, Tallahassee, and other locations throughout the area. Visit the website to enroll online, or call (800) 964-8888 to enroll by phone.
